19 Months

Emmett continues to be such a happy little guy who loves to give hugs, kisses, and cuddles. He will wrap his little arms around my neck and squeeze and it is the sweetest thing ever. He loves to help and loves putting things away. He is great at cleaning up his toys which is good because he is also great at making messes!

He's still not great at talking, but is definitely improving. And he is actually pretty good at communicating by using his words, signs, and if all else fails grabbing your hand and pulling you and pointing  to what he wants. He loves to tell us who everything belongs to and walks around pointing to things and saying, "Emee, Wehwah, Mama, Dada." It's pretty cute and also helpful because there have been several times I almost left something somewhere and he has pointed it out.

The Little Guy loves to be outside active. He loves to ride his bike and Clara's scooter and loves to kick and throw balls. He has always been pretty good at throwing (he practices throwing his toys into the bathtub), but the other day I turned around and he was dribbling his soccer ball all over the yard. And he was doing a great job! When Tio and I work out on Thursdays, Emmett often copies us and tries to do push ups and lifts weights. I think he got the Parkinson athleticism and Clara got my dramatics!

Both Dada and I were out of town this month and Emmett loves facetiming! He kisses the phone, points to it and says, "Mama!" He is usually pretty happy about it and doesn't seem to mind that we are gone. The last night I was gone he started crying when Dada told him it was time for bed and got carried away crying for Mama. It definitely made me sad, but it's also nice to know he misses me and loves me.

Books continue to be one of Emee's favorite things. He is constantly carrying one around and requesting to be read to. If we're busy he is content to have Clara "read" to him or read to himself. For a kid who started out hating reading he has come a long way! At night he chooses a minimum of three books and after I read to him he jumps off my lap shouting Dada and runs into Clara's room with his books to be read to by Dada. I hope he keeps his love of books forever!

Emmett really is the sweetest little boy and he makes every day brighter. One day Clara was screaming and crying because she did not want to go to Los Abuelos and Emmett was patting her on the back and trying to help her put her shoes on. He is always concerned when someone is upset and tries to make them happy again. Unfortunately that same day while I was trying to get a still screaming Clara into the car I shut the front door on Emmett's finger. I'm not sure who cried more, Emmett or me, but it caused Clara to stop crying. Luckily it just got the bottom part of his nail which has since fallen off (the top is still there which is really weird). He was a trooper and stopped crying within minutes and never complained about it again. He's such a good kid!

He went to the dentist this month and I was a little worried his experience getting his tooth pulled would make him hate the dentist. He did great, laid on the chair watching a movie, and didn't even cry. He even got his teeth cleaned since he did so great! Then we ate pizza which he always loves!

Best part of the dentist is pizza after!

New Dos

In January I took the kids to get haircuts. Clara did amazing as usual and sat perfectly still while watching her movie. She even picked out a flower for her braid at the end! Emmett did a million times better than I expected. Last time he tried to jump out of the car and the haircut ended with me holding him like an airplane while the stylist walked around him in circles trying to make his hair even. I was expecting the same, but he actually sat still, watched the movie, and only flinched a little when she used the clippers. He then giggled every time she turned them on because they tickled. Now Emmett looks dapper again and Clara's hair is healthier. They of course loved the car ride at the end and playing with the toys prior to the cut!

Cabin Fun with the Hailes

Beth, Ken, and Hadley made the trek out (it literally took them 8.5 hours instead of 3.5 due to rain and mudslides) to visit us President's Day weekend. We headed up to the cabin Saturday after breakfast and met los Tios up there. It was snowing when we got there and absolutely beautiful. It was Hadley's first time in the snow and she loved it! We ate lunch and then played in the snow. We sledded, walked around, threw snowballs, and made snowmen. It was a lot of fun even if it was freezing.

Los Tios went home at nap time and Emmett took a nap while the girls watched Aladdin. They both loved it and the adults relaxed and reminisced about junior high when we (Beth and I anyway) loved Aladdin. The kids played in the snow again in the evening and then we had dinner. They had fun playing in the cabin with all of the stuffed animals and then we attempted to put them in the same room to sleep. Clara was really excited and then got sad when she realized that I was not sleeping in there too. After a few tears she agreed to it. We kept hearing laughing and talking and Beth went upstairs to find that the girls had turned the light on and were chatting away while poor little Emmett laid there half asleep. They agreed to go to sleep and quieted down. I'm glad they were having so much fun! We enjoyed some wine and popcorn while we caught up.

Sunday Clara woke up crying because her leg hurt. She woke Emmett and Hadley up and Emmett too. Dada brought her down to sleep with me and he slept in her bed and got Emmett calmed down. Everyone was up early and we had breakfast before going for a snowshoe adventure. The girls sang the whole time and Emmett slept. We went sledding when we got back and it was Beth's first time! We all had fun, especially Emmet. He got upset each time he had to stop sledding.

We had lunch and played a little before going back out into the snow for one last time. We sledded and played until we were all freezing. Emmett and Hadley discovered a little stream from the melting snow and played in it until they were soaked. I think all of the kids thoroughly enjoyed the snow (and the adults too).

We packed up and headed home. All of the kids fell asleep for almost the entire trip. I think they were exhausted! We had dinner and the Hailes headed out hoping to have a short trip home. As always we had a great time with them and can't wait to see them again!
