Clara's Baptism and a Birthday Party

I'm a little behind due to life becoming super hectic and never being home so expect a few posts in the next few days. On May 5, 2013, Clarita was baptized. We decided to do it kind of spur of the moment because my dad was still here (he lives in Michigan now) and was leaving on the 7th  and not returning until Laurie and Russell's wedding in September. So the baptism was thrown together in a week. Luckily my pastor is flexible!
What do you put on a baptism cake?
In the Lutheran Church, godparents are generally called sponsors. We chose Laurie and Russell to be Clarita's sponsors and Kevin decided that they are "sponsoring" her wedding. Russell said that as Clara's sponsor he will protect her from boys and she will therefore never marry...I think we made a good choice!

Clara normally sleeps during church but we got there early to get everything set up so it threw her off and she was wide awake. She became a little fussy during the service and I had just about gotten her to sleep when it was time for the baptism (I also didn't realize how much time had passed since I last fed her and turns out she was hungry as well as sleepy). Needless to say this didn't bode well with her. The little wiggle got passed to Tia Laurie for the baptism who had quite a time trying to keep her quiet. She continued to fuss and spit her pacifier out and then want it again.

Funny thing is, as soon as the water was poured on her head she instantly became silent! I think that she thought that she was taking a bath, which she loves. As soon as that part was over she started fussing again. At least she didn't full out scream and all in all did pretty well, especially considering the fact that we were in San Francisco the day before and didn't get home until 11:30 PM. Now Clarita is all baptized and officially a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Thanks to everyone who came and helped!

Who doesn't get baptized with a monkey pacifier in their mouth?

Sophia loves Clara!

After church we headed to Lemoore to our friends' Natalie and Billy's place to celebrate the first birthday of their twins Lyla and Cooper. Lyla and Cooper were born 11 weeks premature and had to stay in the hospital 11 weeks. Lyla also had to have heart surgery. They are now healthy one-year-olds and it was so fun to watch them eat their cake and see how healthy and happy they are! Soon Clara will be running around playing with them! She slept through most of the party in the Baby Bjorn but sure looked cute in her party outfit that FGA Lisa gave her!
