A Pregnant Lady, A Toddler, and a Baby Walk Onto a Plane...

...and everyone cringes including the pregnant lady. At the end of 33 weeks, about as late as I could fly, we headed off to Michigan. Tia Laurie finished teaching and we left as soon as she was done. We decided to hit up Baby Jack's first birthday party on the way to the airport and had a great time playing with all the kiddos and eating great food before we headed out. Tio dropped us (and all of our stuff) at the airport and the adventure began. Our trip started out on the wrong foot when we couldn't board our plane due to it being super hot and needing to be cooled off. I mean, who would think that a plane could get super hot sitting on a runway in 106 degree heat? We finally boarded (the plane was still hot) and after sitting for awhile the flight attendant announced that they needed five volunteers to get off the plane due to it having extra fuel in case of thunderstorms over Denver. This made all of the hot, late people even angrier, but five volunteered as they were already going to miss their connecting flights. Then they had to get all of their luggage off...needless to say we ended up way behind schedule and knew that we were not going to make our connecting flight since we only had a 45 minute layover.

Happy birthday Jack!

Clarita and Bay Leaf both fell asleep before we even took off and slept for an hour and a half or so before waking up ready to play. I had been worried about flying out right in the middle of nap time, but it turned out ok. Clara had been looking forward to the plane trip and was super excited about her suitcase that I bought her. She practiced pulling it around the house before we left. I took the advice of one of Kevin's friends who used to fly to London with small children often and bought a bunch of toys from Dollar Tree. It's a great idea since they're all new and exciting but you don't care if they get lost. Clara was really excited about the toys and the plane. She liked looking at the wings and telling us there were two of them. She also decided that she wanted to sit with Tia and Bailey and kicked me out of my seat! We didn't have any major meltdowns on our first leg despite getting off to a bad start.

Luckily for us, thunderstorms in Denver caused everything to be delayed and our connecting flight left nearly two hours late. We even had time to grab a quick bite to eat! The girls had fun playing with each other and eating in the airport. They put on their jammies and got ready for bed. Bailey slept on the flight but Clara was too excited. She tossed and turned and had a meltdown when the flight attendant told her to put her seat belt on when the pilot turned the sign on. This woke Bailey up, but luckily she was happy. Clara refused to put her seat belt on and slid herself to the floor. It didn't take long to calm her down, but required some musical seats where Tia and I switched a couple of times. She finally settled down with me and Bailey played away. Luckily she was ready to put her seat belt on by the time we landed and we didn't have any other problems. The man behind us actually complimented us on having two well behaved little girls!

Eating in the airport is messy!

We didn't get to Detroit until 2:00 AM local time and the girls were troopers for having slept so little. We got our bags and went outside to wait for the hotel shuttle. I called the hotel to make sure it was coming and was assured it ran every half hour and was on its way...lies! After 45 minutes I called again and was told they would call it. After over an hour a driver from a different hotel told us it was unacceptable that we were still waiting (we had seen the same shuttles pass us by multiple times) and he insisted on driving us to the hotel. We were very appreciative as it was nearly 4:00 AM at this point. The girls were still awake and surprisingly both happy. Clarita was excited that she was in Reedcito's stroller that we had borrowed and wanted to be pushed up and down the sidewalk. Bailey liked watching Clara. On the shuttle Tia realized that she no longer had her wallet and our trip continued on the wrong foot. We finally got to bed around 4:15 and were absolutely exhausted, but glad that we had made it safely and without any major meltdowns! I must say, it went a lot smoother than I had anticipated and we were all so impressed with the girls and their ability to be flexible!

Killing time while we had stroller races

Somehow they still managed to be happy
