School!

Both kids are in school this year! Clara started Kindergarten the middle of August and was so excited! We had a parent meeting and meet and greet with the teacher the day before school started. Clara picked out an outfit for that as well as for the first actual day complete with shoes and accessories! Her teacher, Ms. Resendez, is brand new and this is her first year teaching. I think she will be perfect for Clara and Clarita said she likes her because she is delgadita (skinny) like us! The classroom theme is camping and there is even a tent with little chairs and a pretend fire!

Clara was so excited to meet her teacher and go on a scavenger hunt to find different locations at school. She even got to get a snack from the cafeteria! Clarita picked out hot lunches from the calendar that she would like to try (mush to my surprise) rather than bringing lunch each day. She also planned her cold lunches and snacks! There were a couple of kids from preschool in her class so Clara was excited to know someone. Her best friend, Grace, is in the class next door and they sit across from each other in the cafeteria so that made her happy too. I think that Clara is going to love school and have a great first year! There was no crying or sadness when I dropped her off, only excitement!

Celebrating school starting

Emmett started preschool a few weeks later and had to go shopping like Clara and pick out an outfit for the first day. He choose dinosaur shorts and a bright yellow polo shirt with a tiny dinosaur logo. He was so excited that he had a shirt like Dada but with a dinosaur instead of an elephant! Emmett has been looking forward to preschool as long as he can remember! On Clara's last day he declared that it was now his preschool and points it out every time we pass by. He has been talking about all the friends he knows who will be there and kept saying that he is going to play with boys and Bailey (he was excited about boys being there since he is always surrounded by girls)!

There was a parent meeting and meet and great with the teachers prior to the first day and the kids had to go to the playground. I prepared Emmett for the separation (I didn't know when Clara started and it was the only time she ever cried) and luckily he got there at the same time as Bailey who took his hand and led him onto the playground. I think he may have cried if she hadn't been there. Emmett was so excited about his classroom, especially once he found cars and trucks to play with. He did not want to leave!

The actual first day both Emmett and Bailey were super excited. He literally ran into the classroom without a backwards glance. Definitely not what I expected from the boy who cries when I drop him off at los Abuelos. Bailey has said that she holds his hand if he gets scared. I think the fact that the two of them are in the same class will be helpful for him. I predict that he is going to love preschool!
