20 months

Clarita continues to amaze us with her ability to learn! She just seems to absorb everything around her. She knows her colors and will randomly say them (in English only) as she is playing. She is almost always correct and will point to the correct color when you ask her in Spanish. She knows a lot of letters and will tell you "D Dada", "C Clara", "M Mama", and "A Aba." We're working on "F Fafa."

Genius!

This little girl loves kids. She always points out the ninos and runs to them at the park with her arms outstretched! She has little friends that she sees at the park and will tell me all about them when I get home from work. She always remembers their names. Clara and Aba go to the library each week and Clara loves the kids there. She also loves doing crafts, especially those that involve glue sticks!

"Cawa's toys!"

Morning snuggles

Biking is so fun!

Although Clara was not a big fan of Baby Bailey at first, she now loves her. She has declared Bailey to be "Cawa's baby" and requests to hold her. She gives her kisses, hugs, and beep beeps on her nose. When we ask Clara if she is done holding Bailey she says "No!" and hugs her tighter. It is adorable and I can't wait to watch these girls grow up together!

Beepbeep

Clara also loves "Teegee" and often "calls" her on the phone. On days she goes to Fafa and Abuela Sheri's, Clarita tells me that she is going to see Teegee and Tistan. I think she always hopes they will be there, but is usually disappointed.

This is what happens when Dada's in charge...

Church council meetings are so fun

Dancing is another one of Clarita's favorite things and we often have dance parties. We listen to music at dinner and she commands us to dance. She even has little moves made up where she steps sideways across the floor waving her arms. My favorite is when we are calmly eating and all of a sudden Clara busts out with a dance move involving pumping her hands in the air! She even told me that she would like to have a dance party with Reedcito (I translated this to mean that they are obviously getting married)!

She's a genius!

Did I mention she's a genius?

Clarita's Stats

Weight: 21.4 pounds
Height: 32 inches
Head Circumference: 18.5 inches

What Clara Wears

Clarita has moved up to 18 month clothes which are still a little big. She still has some size four shoes, but is moving into size five.

Things Clara Loves

Mama and Dada, going for walks, naked baby time, pacifiers (especially her monito), reading books, people, playing with her toys, animals (especially her cats), eating, playing peek a boo, running, phones, remote controls, Baby Signing Time DVDs, stuffed animals (especially Momo and "Bafa"),  being swung through the air, swinging, sliding, being outside, water, swimming, blowing bubbles with Abuelita, dancing, shoes, esnugles, baths, letters, coloring, crafts

Things Clara Does Not Love

Having her hair combed and having her teeth brushed top the chart. I literally have to hold her down screaming and shaking her head back and forth to brush her teeth. She likes to do it on her own, but hates assistance...

How Clarita Sleeps

She's still taking one three hour nap and goes to bed between 1:00 and 2:00. At night she has been going down around 8:30 and getting up around 6:30. Clara sleeps in her sleep sack with Momo, Bafa, up to three pinguinos, and her chuponcito.

Nicknames

Clarita, Snugglepuff, Snuggles, Wiggle, Baby/Bebe, Munchkin, Birthday Twin, Loquita, Pipsqueak, Wigs, Loqs, Puff (thanks Mama)

Talking

Clara talks nonstop and I can only understand half of what she says. She has been speaking in English a lot more than Spanish, but still responds to Spanish. I think the fact that we always speak English around her has made her want to speak it too. She also repeats EVERYTHING. We were at a meeting and she was pretending to talk on the phone. Her conversation was exactly what was being said in the meeting!

Teeth

Nine (almost to double digits!) four top front, three bottom front, one top molar and one bottom molar.

Dada's Birthday

We love birthdays and this year Dada's birthday celebration managed to last a week and a half! On his actual birthday I had bookclub. I offered to stay home or go somewhere with him to celebrate but he declined the offer. I think he just wanted to have a fiesta with Clarita! And what a fiesta they had! It involved eating a million puffs for dinner, dance parties with star sunglasses, and an impressive 35 trips down the slide! I rushed to get home at 8:30 hoping the little Wiggle would still be awake. They were not even home when I got there, they were still at the park! Needless to say, they had a super fun night free of Mama's rules.

How many puffs can she eat?

The Saturday after Dada's birthday we had to run some errands in Fresno so we combined these with a birthday lunch at Red Robin. Dada had a very impressive three root beer floats and Clarita enjoyed lots of french fries. She also thought the metal french fry holders were fun toys! That night we had dinner with los Tios and Baby Bailey. Dada got to relax and even had a jello cake complete with candles that Tia found. Clarita helped him blow out the candles and enjoyed her first taste of jello cake which she loved (who doesn't?)!

We celebrated Dada's birthday with Fafa and Abuela Sheri Monday and went to dinner at a Thai restaurant in Hanford. Clara was very good for the first hour and enjoyed eating cucumber salad (she even ate the red onions!), brocoli, the tiny corn things, spicy rice, and of course lots of grapes. There was a little jack-o-lantern that "danced" on the cash register and Clara spotted it as soon as we walked in. She is obsessed with pumpkins and spent the whole night talking about the calabaza that danced. By the end of dinner she was only happy if she could see it. She also liked the candy at the register and was content to play with her piece the whole way home (candy is for playing not eating and she says "no eat" as she plays with it!). It was a very nice evening.

Calabaza

Dada's high school friends came over for one last celebration on Saturday. All together there were 11 kids with 1 more due any day and 3 who couldn't make it ! It was pure chaos, but so much fun! Clara had lots of fun playing with the ninos and we all took turns snuggling Baby Bailey. I was busy having fun and only managed to get a couple of pictures.

Welcome Bailey Frijolita!

My earliest memory takes place in my grandparents' bathroom when I was three years old and my mother was in labor. I remember praying that I would get a sister. My prayers were answered and that baby sister now has her own baby! Bailey Kiyoko Suemoto (aka Frijolita) made her appearance on November 2, 2014 at 10:34 PM! She weighed in at 6 pounds 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. We are so excited to welcome her to the family and proud of Tia Laurie for being a trooper and doing such a good job birthing her!

The happy family

She just happened to be born the same day that Dada ran his first marathon. As we were leaving the marathon Tia Laurie called to say that she had been having steady contractions and thought that the baby was coming that day. I was of course super excited! Los Tios didn't want anyone to know anything until she got admitted so I kept silent and checked my phone for updates constantly. I finally headed to the hospital around 7:00 to meet Abuelita, Tio's parents Donna and Taco (he convinced Clara that is his dad's name), and Tio Robert and Tia Erika. Clarita had to stay home with Dada.

Taco got tired of waiting!

We waited in the waiting room for what seemed like forever (made longer by the fact that it had been such a long day and I was exhausted). I got occasional updates from Tio Chino and I'm pretty sure the entire hospital heard the cheer from all of us when I showed everyone the picture he sent us of Bailey! We got to go in and see her around 11:30 and we tried to be brief as they were exhausted and needed to rest and spend time with Bailey. We took turns holding her and admiring all of her black hair! When Tia Laurie was born my dad called me at my grandparents' house to tell me that my mom had a "hairy gorilla" due to the fact that Tia Laurie was so hairy. I have never forgotten that and it seemed fitting that Tia would have her own "hairy gorilla!" I was so thrilled to meet little Bailey and I've never seen Tio and Tia look happier.

The Suemotos

On Monday Dada and I went to visit Bailey (and her parents) at lunch since he hadn't met her yet and I wanted to snuggle her again. She and her parents were doing well and we took turns holding her. We thought Clarita had a lot of hair when she was born but Bailey put Clara's hair to shame! I love babies with lots of hair!

He still remembers how to hold a newborn

Look at that hair!

I had to go to Napa for work (for the third time in a month!:() so I forbid Clara from meeting Bailey until I got back. Luckily I got back earlier than expected and we were able to take Los Tios dinner Wednesday night and Clarita got to meet Frijolita! Bailey was in her swing in the living room when we arrived and Clara was interested in her. She wouldn't get too close but she stood nearby saying and signing "baby." She then said, "baby, hair" in reference to Frijolita's full head of hair! I think she approved! Clarita refused to touch Bailey and was content to look at her. While we ate dinner Tia held Bailey and Clara kept saying, "Tia, baby" and pointing to them. After dinner I snuggled with Bailey and Clara threw a fit! She has been getting upset for the past couple of months when I hold babies and I think it was made worse by the fact that I had been gone for the past two days. We tried to take a picture of the girls but Clara hid with Dada and made "I hope you die" faces. She even tried to push Bailey away and yelled "No!"

She's a natural!

I got Clara to sit on my lap with Bailey and even got a little smile out of her. She spent the rest of the night saying, "Mama, baby" and shaking her head no and saying, "Tia, baby" and shaking her head yes. I think she needs some time to get used to Bailey and then they will be best friends!

Primas

We visited them again this weekend and Clara played outside with Dada, Tio, and Taco while I snuggled Bailey. It took her awhile when she came inside to realize that I was holding Bailey Bean. When she did she yelled, "No!", started to whine, and then got over it. Sunday we went over with Aba after church and Clara did not complain when I held Bailey and even sat next to me and touched her hair. She did not want Aba to hold Bailey, but then decided she would just sit next to them. Clarita started touching Bailey's hair (she is really obsessed with her hair, probably because most of the babies she knows are bald) and then decided it was soft and she liked rubbing her face on it. Clara even decided to give her a kiss and petted her hair saying, "nice nice." I think they will be best friends in no time!
