12 Months

Somehow it happened, Emmett turned one! Part of me feels like he was just born, and part of me feels like he has been with us forever. He really was the perfect addition to complete our family and I cannot imagine life without him. Emmett is my little snuggly guy who showers me with kisses when I get home and cries when I leave. He is definitely attached to me and crawls over to me, pulls himself up on my legs, and reaches his little hands up saying, "Mamamama." He is the sweetest little guy and loves people. All you have to do is look at him and he bursts into the biggest smile. His smile lights up the room and it is impossible to be sad/mad when he smiles at you. His laugh is contagious and even Clara starts giggling when Emmett laughs. He continues to be the happiest baby in the world and pretty easy going.

Those eyes

Buggle is also very strong willed like his Mama and sister. He is quite independent and now squirms and tries to jump out of my arms when we go upstairs. He wants to crawl up the stairs and gets angry if I don't let him. He has never let us feed him anything except oatmeal and yogurt, but now he doesn't even want his food cut into chunks. He wants to eat what we are eating. I gave him a whole sausage and he gobbled it down. I gave him sausage chunks and he threw them on the floor! He only has one and a half teeth, but he is surprisingly good at chewing.

Emmett absolutely adores Clarita. When he gets up in the morning he wants to nurse, and then he makes a beeline for Clara's room. All she has to do is look at him and he gets so happy and wiggles like a little puppy. Clara is an amazing big sister. She is always very concerned about the Little Guy and makes sure she closes the stair gates so he doesn't fall. Emmett also loves Bailey and even blew her kisses the other day. He loves chasing after the cats and squeals every time he sees them. 

This month Emmett had his first non well baby check trip to the doctor. Long story short, his penis was really red and had a little lesion. The doctor wasn't sure what caused it but prescribed antibiotics (which I hate giving him) and Neosporin. He shed all the skin like a little snake and got better, but when I started cloth diapers again it got worse. I am wondering if maybe the soap didn't all wash out or something got on them while they were drying that irritated his sensitive skin. I decided to forgo cloth diapers until we get back from Texas and so far so good. None of this seemed to bother him, and even though he was super tired at the doctor he still had smiles for everyone.

Emmett is really into walking and walks all over holding our hands or holding onto other things. He squirms to get out of our arms and can walk up to 13 steps on his own. Sometimes he takes a bunch of steps and then squats down and starts crawling. I think he wants to go fast and crawling is easier. He loves walking with assistance and often grabs my hand so I can help him walk. Soon he will be chasing Clara and Bailey around!

This baby loves to climb! He climbs onto step stools, steps at the park, and even tries to climb the kitchen cabinets (and gets really angry when he can't). When I was packing for Texas he became obsessed with climbing onto Clara's suitcase. He would get on top and try to stand up and then scream so we could see his accomplishment. He even pushed a box of books next to the suitcase so it would be easier for him to climb! I think he's going to cause me a lot of grief in the months to come.

This first year has gone by so fast. Although I miss the tiny baby we brought home from the hospital, I love watching Emmett change and grow. I can't wait to see what the next year brings us and how his little personality develops!

12 month clothes are starting to get packed up and 12-18 and 18 month clothes fit well. Shoes are a size 4.

Things Emmett Loves

Mama and Daddy (especially Mama), nursing, being carried in the carrier, Clarita and Bailey, putting everything in his mouth, looking at the cute baby in the mirror, playing with his toys, being a baby airplane, people in general, spitting, splurping, jumping, standing up, crawling, eating, screeching, the cats, going for walks in the stroller, swinging, Gymboree, swimming/playing with water, bath time, walking, being outside, climbing, eating, balls.

Things Emmett Does Not Love

Waiting to eat, having his face/nose wiped, having things taken away from him, seeing Mama walk away, being set down when he is hungry or tired, having his diaper changed, being held when he wants to walk.

Eating

Signing
Emmett isn't super into signing. He signs more, eat, and sleep sometimes.

Talking
Emmett is finally attempting some words. He says Mama, Dada (ocassionally), ma (mas), awa (agua), cl (clara), and one day while watching Signing Time said sku after she said skunk. He is starting to imitate us more.

How Emmett Sleeps

He generally goes to bed between 8:30 and 9:00 and wakes up between 6:30 and 7:00 (sometimes not until after 8:00 on the weekends). He takes 2 2-3 hour naps, one between 9:00 and 10:00 and another between 1:30 and 2:30. He sleeps in his crib with a sleep sack and a million animals that he likes to play with when he wakes up and slam into the sides before he goes to sleep. He generally sleeps on his stomach.
