A Camping We Will Go!

The kids have been wanting to go camping for a while but I boycotted it. My friend, Beth, finally convinced me it would be fun so we planned a trip for a weekend in July. We chose a campground that was close to the cabin in case we needed anything (like a shower). I required running water so Dada found a place with bathrooms (unfortunately no showers). We headed up on a Thursday evening and The Hailes were already there and had dinner cooking when we arrived! We got a new tent that was supposed to go up super fast. Once we figured out how to work it, we were definitely impressed with how fast and easy (and super spacious) it was! Fafa brought us some firewood (and other things we forgot), and we had a great first night!

It rained and snowed a ton last winter so we checked out some waterfalls Friday and they did not disappoint! Our plan had been to bring the minivan so we could all go together, but I got hit (by a guy without insurance) a couple days before so it was out of commission. We made do with two cars and shared snacks every time we stopped! We had a picnic lunch and then headed to Boyden Cave. We hadn't been there in ages and the kids had never gone. It was fun and crazy to think that Mr. Boyden lived in there for quite some time, by himself, in the darkness! Definitely not for me! Emmett, of course, fell asleep on the way back so we transferred him to the tent and he continued to sleep! We ate a delicious dinner, made s'mores, and had a great time hanging out!

Saturday, we headed to Hume Lake. The kids and dads swam, we walked around the lake, saw a bald eagle, ate a picnic lunch, and had a relaxing day. We went back to camp where Emmett, once again, got transferred to sleep more in the tent. The girls played, the adults relaxed, and we went on a walk to the store for ice cream! After dinner, Beth and I took the kids on a walk and even saw some deer!

Sunday, we packed up after breakfast and headed to the cabin. We sent the Hailes home with some fruit and then took showers and rested. All in all, it was a super fun weekend and not nearly as terrible as I had imagined! It was actually super relaxing once I resigned myself to the fact that everything was going to be dusty and dirty for the weekend. Luckily we went with Beth and Ken because there were so many things we never thought to bring (like something to wash dishes in). I hadn't gone camping since I was young (and my parents planned everything) and Dada had only gone backpacking in recent years (and took almost nothing). We will definitely do it again!!
