Emmett's First Trip to the Cabin

Last weekend we decided to get out of the heat and head to the cabin. We headed up Friday evening after Dada got home from work and were welcomed with some yummy pizza that Fafa and Abuela Sheri picked up! Emmett slept the whole way up and Clarita was content to look at the scenery and sing. She loves the cabin and asked me if there was going to be snow when I told her that we were going. Clara had tons of fun playing with all of the stuffed animals while Baby Emmett snuggled with the adults.

On Saturday we took a walk around Wilsonia. Emmett slept the entire time and Clara alternated between running and having Dada carry her. We got to see a tree trimmer truck with it's giant crane arm going to the top of a pine tree which Clarita thought was pretty cool. Emmett and I went to a tea luncheon put on by the women in Wilsonia while Clara took a nap and Dada and Fafa hung out. Abuela Sheri helped with it and it was a nice tea. Everything was very cute and we got a little glimpse of what life was like back when women used to gather for tea. Emmett, of course, slept through the entire thing!

After Clarita played outside in the dirt which necessitated a bath, we headed to Hume Lake for dinner. We got some good views of the Rough Fire that is burning in the park. It had burned about 13,000 acres and was 0 percent contained while we were there (it has since burned nearly 50,000 acres, is still raging out of control, Hume Lake was evacuated, and los Abuelos have brought stuff home from the cabin in case the fire reaches it). The air was full of smoke plumes and we actually saw some flames. Clarita was very impressed by the helicopter which came to take water out of the lake. She also enjoyed jumping off the rocks and we left with her legs cut up and covered in bruises...she must be my daughter! Emmett was content to sleep, nurse, and look around.

Who needs pants?

She loves her milk (or white soda
as she likes to call it!)

Tummy time!

On Sunday Dada rode his bike to Hume Lake and back before we got up (he's crazy as it was 26 miles with tons of climbing at high elevations) and made it back in time for breakfast. We took another walk after breakfast and then hung out and got everything ready to head home. After lunch we packed up and headed out since Tristan's birthday party was in the afternoon. Clarita fell right to sleep and slept until we got home. Emmett did too! It was a nice relaxing weekend and a nice break from the valley heat!
