As I write this blog a year later, I realize that although Christmas 2020 was not what any of us expected or wanted, we still managed to have a great time and focus on the meaning of the celebration. It was also nice to slow down and just enjoy our time together. Tia, Aba, and I took the kids to begin our celebrations with a gathering with Tio Robert, Tia Erika, and Eleanora in the park by their house. They wore their Christmas outfits and braved the cold! Tios had hot chocolate, cookies, crafts, and the kids had so much fun! They opened presents, and had fun playing.
When Dada got home from work the kids opened their presents from each other and their cards from Grandma Peggy. Then we headed to Tios to spend the rest of the day.
We had a delicious dinner and I insisted on dressing up even though we weren't going anywhere. Instead of rushing like normal, we had time to take lots of pictures! We found a candlelight service online and watched it on TV. The kids brought us dot markers as pretend candles. Although it wasn't the same as being there in person, it was actually nice not having to brave the fog and go anywhere. Clara even acquiesced and played some Christmas songs on her violin since she didn't get to have a Christmas concert. The kids had a blast opening presents and since Bailey and Clara were both missing their two front teeth there were a lot of "all I want for Christmas are my two front teeth" comments. After dessert the kids went to bed and the adults opened our presents and enjoyed hanging out. Despite COVID, it was really a nice night!
Dada and I went for our annual Christmas run and the kids patiently waited for us to get back to open stockings. Tia made us a delicious dinner and then we headed home to open stockings. Abuelos came over to watch the kids open presents on the porch and Clara put on a violin concert for them too. It was the weirdest Christmas day and by early afternoon we were done. Since we hadn't gone to Christmas Tree Lane yet, we decided to check it out that evening. We ate some tamales and brought Christmas cookies to snack on. Of course Emmett fell asleep on the way there, didn't wake up while we waited a half hour to get through traffic, and was so difficult to wake up once we were on the actual street. He finely woke up and both kids enjoyed it. This was the first time we drove rather than walking and they thought it was extra fun since they didn't have to wear seatbelts, got to sit in the front, and got to put their heads out the sunroof! It was a good end to the least normal Christmas we ever had!
